STARR Restaurants and Chef Justin Smillie bring to you an exotic California inspired cuisine, Upland. After many years of success at NYC’s Il Buco Alimentari, Smillie finally collaborated with mega-restaurateur Stephen Starr (the visionary of Buddakan, Morimoto and El Vez) in opening his dream restaurant.
The restaurant which is located on Park Avenue South, is named after the town Smillie was born. The carefully prepared extensive menu consists of many local Californian ingredients with a sophisticated twist. It includes the highly recommended dishes such as: Stracciatella and pear pizza, Estrella pasta with sautéed chicken livers, seared octopus with smoked eggplant caviar, and (a must try) short rib for two. For those who would like to indulge themselves, there is a wide range of cocktails and 500+ bottle wine list.
The interior was decorated by the design firm Roman and Williams (previously known for Lafayette, the Breslin, or the Standard Grill). They have used wood, copper accents and leather seats which gives Upland a modern/rustic but also comfortably chic feel.
Upland is definitely one of the “it” spots in the city nowadays; but is “the” spot to truly Uplift your Tastebuds!
